March 20: Saint Wulfram

Qui ayunt omnia cum consillio regunter sapientia. Prov. 13.
Those who commit themselves to good counsel and the guidance of God's Providence are governed by wisdom.
Sapientia est in paenitudine peccatorum, in contemptu praesentium commodorum, in desiderio futurorum praemiorum. S. Bern. l. 1. de cons.
The source of true power is wisdom, which comes from making penance for one's sins and Earthly riches out of desire for the Eternal Beatification, staying singularly focused on doing the Will of God.

Example: The wisdom of Saint Joachim, father of the Blessed Virgin, was such that Saint Wulfram, Bishop of Sens and apostle to the Frisians chose to imitate him. Both men had acquired their wisdom through resignation to the Will of God, which made them abhor sin, reject the World, and aspire towards Heaven. Wulfram was as morally perfect as his actions were miraculous. He saved a young man from the gallows who was resigned to his fate. Two brothers were thrown into the sea, and Wulfram walked over the water to save them from drowning. Having gently pulled the two youths onto shore, one with the right hand and the other with the left, he baptized them and returned them unharmed to their mother. Wulfram also compelled the son of Duke Radbod to be numbered among the children of Jesus Christ. Radbod himself could have received this joy had he desired it. However, when Wulfram provoked him by telling him that all of his pagan ancestors were in Hell, Radbod quipped that he'd rather be in good company in Hell than in Heaven with only a select few.

Practice: Dear Lover of God, don't you see how extremely foolish that is? Be wise in imitating Saints Joachim and Wulfram. You will no longer be inconsistent because you will no longer sin, and you will no longer sin because you will be conformed to the Will of God. He who gives himself to sin serves as many tyrants as he does disordered passions. He is passed from one master to another. What instability! He who is resigned to the Holy Will of God has no guide but that immutable being. What constancy! What more would he require to have days of joy?
